Concerned With Foolishness

16 year old Gabby Douglas made history last week by becoming the first African American to win the gold in Gymnastics in the 2012 Olympics. It was a proud moment for all Americans & African Americans in particular because she is one of our own. However, there are those of us who seem to always focus on foolishness and dared to criticize Gabby for the way that she wore her hair! The internet is buzzing with people saying that her hair style too closely resembled that of here Caucasian counterparts. The ignorance of some people never ceases to amaze me. This young lady made history at 16 years old. Who cares about her hair?! These are probably the same people who said that Obama wasn't black enough, and believe that Tupac is still alive.
Ignorance is a disease that has plagued the Black community for decades & just when it seems that it can't get any worse, here we go again. Instead of tearing Gabby Douglas down because of her hair, she should be encouraged and praised for her achievement.
There is a whole laundry list of things that are way more important in Black America. Things like unemployment,, economic empowerment, combatting heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and last but not least, the outcome of the up coming Presidential election. If we spent half as much time
concerning ourselves with maintaining our right to health care as we do to who says what on Twitter we would be far ahead of the game.
