This Tweet was made by Pastor Andy Thompson of World Overcomers Christian Church in Durham, North Carolina while leading a Christian conference on love and marriage. The controversial tweet has drawn criticism from an ever growing contingent of the African-American community who are easily offended by certain perceptions which often cause them to miss the big picture. With that being said, often times they take exception to everybody and anybody who has the audacity to call a spade a spade.
If you read Pastor Thompson's tweet and take a second to put it in context it is not at all difficult to extrapalate it's meaning. In doing so it should be clear and evident that in the midst of a seminar about love and marriage in using the word "hoe" to describe a women, he is speaking in reference to any woman who knowingly attempts to embark on an aduturous affair. This woman is undoubtedly a "Hoe". Sure he could have used the word adulter. But it would merely be summantical in meaning. Kind of like calling a dog an animal. There is absolutely no difference. It is ridiculous to harp on Pastor Thompson's use of the word especially given that fact that it was not applied to a particular race or ethnicity. Those who choose to make a connection that is otherwise and make reference to connotation are themselves guilty of stereotyping the application of the word. I reiterate, any woman, or man for that matter, who chooses to engage in an affair with a married man or woman is a "hoe". Whether they're White, Black, Green, Yellow, or Purple. It is the action of the person. Those of us who are African-American should NEVER choose to own such a negative word because negative words do not own us.
