The Death Of Hoffman

On Monday critically acclaimed actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York City apartment as the result of an apparent heroin overdose. The latest in a long line of celebrity deaths, with an all to familiar narrative. Fame, a tortured soul, and addiction leading to tragedy. But what makes this case different is the fact that the NYPD arrested suspects. Three men and a woman in a downtown Manhattan apartment building who might have been suppliers of the heroin that killed Hoffman, despite the fact that in New York City, drug dealers cannot be charged, and cannot be held responsible for deaths caused by overdose. I have never heard of suspected drug dealers being arrested for allegedly selling the drugs that caused a "star" to overdose.

My question is. Why is there such an interest in who sold drugs to Hoffman as opposed to who sold drugs to Whitney Houston, Heath Ledger, or John Belushi?

This should not be a standard that only  applies to this case. This particular course of action should be one size fits all.
