Many of us spend so much time dwelling on moments and events that have come and gone that we let our preoccupation stymy our progress. Instead of chalking those past experiences up to lessons learned. Some hold on to them and make them the focal point of their lives making their future secondary. As a result the future becomes nothing more than an afterthought. They watch the coming days and weeks pass one at a time by the skin of their teeth. Indeed, this is life, but is it progress? No.
The past can help us make progress if and only if we don't dwell in it. Our pasts are all rich with valuable lessons, and jewels designed to help us thrive and grow. Unfortunately not all of us recognize the purpose in those lessons. Instead we blame someone for our misfortune, and we accept no personal responsibility. Forward thinking is futile if we fail to at least acknowledge our short comings. It is then and only then that we can succeed, instead of flounder.
"I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul." |
William Ernest Henley (Invictus) Ultimately we are responsible for who we are, where we are, and where we're going. No amount of prayer, hope, or blame in the world is a substitute for for taking ownership of our lives. PR |
