John 8:32
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
But the fact is, you have to want to know the truth. Those who don't know the truth will never be free. They will be nothing more than captives of their own naïveté, crippled by their ignorance.
"Lest we get on our high horse and think this [violence in the name of religion] is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ...Michelle and I returned from India, an incredible, beautiful country, full of magnificent diversity, but a place where, in past years, religious faiths of all types have on occasion been targeted by other peoples of faith...acts of intolerance that would have shocked Gandhi."
Above is a direct quote from President Obama made in reference to the ongoing characterization of all Muslims as terrorists. This statement drew fire from both his critics and supporters alike. But the fact is, what the president said was not a theory, a wild accusation or a false assertion. It is a historical fact.
So called Christians have used Christianity as a tool to keep slaves in line for hundreds of years. These evil slave masters would give their slaves a little touch of Jesus to "cure" their desire to free themselves. They gave them Christianity as a way of pacifying them and they believed that the only way that they would and could be free was if it was God's will. They never knew the truth, and they were never taught the truth. The greatest gift that God had given them was freedom of choice, so they never exercised their option to fight for what they deserved. Freedom and bondage are polar opposites. Millions of African's were enslaved, tortured and murdered all while Jesus' name was being used in vain.. This is fact, not fiction.
With that being said, labeling people and making broad generalizations about their culture or religion is dangerous. Notice, in this piece I never said that all Christians have killed, or will kill. But there were some whom I assume we're Christians in name only due to the fact that they used Christianity as a tool for evil, who have misused our faith to oppress an entire race of people. This oppression included murder.
This week in Chapel Hill, North Carolina 3 Indian American students who just happened to be Muslin were murdered by a man just because of his perception who he thought they were. But his assumption turned out to be false. As it turns out, he was the terrorist!
