The Right Thing

Sometimes life can be an up hill battle filled with options, choices, and situation's in which we don't have an option or a choice. The scenario's involved can be pretty complex. But unless you are void of a conscience, we all want to do the right thing. The question is, what is the right thing? In certain situation's it is clear, concise, and without any repercussions. Often times we are tested to see what we're made of. One thing is for sure, there will be times in our lives when doing the right thing is just not easy, and it just doesn't feel good. It can be inconvenient, challenging, and not at all beneficial. Even those of us who are Christian's live in a world where the general motivation for most actions is self gratification. So it is no easy task for any of us at times to just do the right thing without reward, other than building a reputable character.
I truly believe that most of us know the difference between right and wrong but many people will do the wrong thing if it feels right for them. Living life like this will always bring about negative consequences because the decision to do the wrong thing for the "right" reason is fleeting. In other words, it is a temporary fix. The worst thing about a temporary fix is that it's temporary.
Doing the right thing is just about always a selfless act with little or no reward. But the positive result is ever lasting. Your actions may encourage other's to act in a positive way, and each and everything that we do represents our testimony. Our behavior is a testament to who we are, and it speaks louder than any words that we can say. Jesus gave his life on the cross at Calvary so that we would have everlasting life. He has all power in his hands as the son of God yet, he did what was right. He could have destroyed all of those who persecuted him, and took vengeance on those who hung him high and stretched him wide. But he didn't. There was never a person in the history of the world who made a bigger sacrifice to do what is right, and there never will be. When I find myself in a crisis of conscience, as we all do from time to time I remind myself of the ultimate right thing, Jesus giving his life for me, and suddenly my little problem's, situation's and struggles pale in comparison. Food for thought that I find nourishing, inspiring, and sustaining to my soul.
